Description: [...] families appear to encourage boys more strongly in mathematics than they do girls, and fathers appear to have a strong influence on whether girls come to love mathematics (Jacobs, Davis-Kean, Bleeker, Eccles, & Malachuk, 2005). [...] even in the face of similar mathematics aptitude and achievement based on gender, it appears that gender-based stereotypes still plague U.S. learners, their families, and educators (Cavanaugh, 2008). [...] more research needs to be developed in order to continue to address the causes of differential performance in mathematics and science of school-aged children.
