Title:
Fysisk aktivitet og demens
Author:
10093
Description:
Nøkkelord : Demens, sykehjem, eldre, fysisk aktivitet, sykepleier, ADL. Background: The number of patients with dementia, is expected to increase. Patients with dementia are at risk of reduced physical functioning. Primary health care institutions, are responsible for ensuring daily physical activity for these patients. Nurses must cover the fundemental needs of their patients, including the need to be physical active. Aim: Examine the effects of physical activity for patients with dementia, and how nurses working in nursing homes can promote phsyical activity among these patients. Method: This litteraturestudy is based on eigth research articles. Results: The reasearch shows that the amount of physical activity among nursing home patients, is not adequate. Patients with dementia had more anxiety and depression, compared to those without dementia. Diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases, were the most common somatic diseases in nursing homes. Patients experienced physical, sosical and psychological benefits from being active. Some examples: Better gripstrength, balance, quality of life, and social skills, and less depressive symptoms. Conclusion: Patients with dementia exeperienced less depressive symptoms, better quality of life, better gripstrengt and better balance, from physical activity. Nurses should focus on individual preferences when promoting physical activity among these patients. Arranged physical activity in groups, also gave positive effects for patients and nursing home personell. Nurses can stimulate activity by including patients in everyday tasks, involve them in caring situations ect. Welfare technology can also be used for this purpose. Keywords: Dementia, nursing home, elderly, physical activity, nurse, ADL.
