  • Description: In Elena Quiroga’s Escribo tu nombre, a dichotomy is created between the convent, a space of education, and the outside world, shown as dangerous by the members of a conservative society. It participates in confining Tadea, the main character of the novel. This spatial confinement reflects the ideological limits imposed by the indoctrination guiding the exercise of faith. By leaving the convent and meeting characters that embody the Republican progress of the 1930s in Spain, Tadea is able to open up both to the world and to a literary knowledge that teaches her to know herself and to build herself as an individual. The affirmation of her character abolishes the frontiers imposed in the space of the convent and goes hand in hand with the delimitation of the narrative instance. If the main character is the narrator, it appears that her narrative expression detaches itself from her. It results in a narrative blur whose contours become more defined as the character breaks down the barriers imposed by her education. This article will show how the liberation and construction of the character and the affirmation and completion of the narrative instance are intertwined. La dicotomía creada entre el espacio de educación, el convento por un lado, y el mundo exterior mostrado como peligroso por los actores de una sociedad conservadora, por otro, participa en confinar al personaje principal en la obra Escribo tu nombre de Elena Quiroga. Este encierro espacial refleja los límites ideológicos impuestos por el adoctrinamiento que guía el ejercicio de la fe. Saliendo del convento e intercambiando con personajes que encarnan el progreso republicano de los años 30 en España, Tadea, el personaje principal, es capaz de abrirse tanto al mundo como a un conocimiento literario que le enseña a conocerse a sí misma y a construirse como individuo. La afirmación del personaje que hace que se derrumban las fronteras impuestas en el espacio del convento va de la mano de la delimitación de la instancia narrativa. Si el personaje principal es la narradora, ocurre que su expresión narrativa se desprende de ella para residir en una forma de indefinición narrativa cuyos contornos van definiéndose a medida que el personaje rompe las barreras impuestas por su educación. Este artículo mostrará cómo se entrelazan la liberación y la construcción del personaje, por une parte, con la afirmación y la finalización de la instancia narrativa por otra. La dichotomie créée entre l’espace d’éducation qu’est le couvent, d’une part, et le monde extérieur montré comme dangereux par les acteurs d’une société conservatrice, d’autre part participe à confiner le personnage principal dans l’œuvre Escribo tu nombre d’Elena Quiroga. Cet enfermement spatial reflète les limites idéologiques imposées par l’endoctrinement qui guide l’exercice de la foi. En sortant du couvent et au contact de personnages qui incarnent le progrès républicain des années 30 en Espagne, Tadea, le personnage principal, est capable de s’ouvrir à la fois au monde et à une connaissance littéraire qui lui apprend à se connaître elle-même et à se construire comme individu. L’affirmation du personnage qui abolit les frontières imposées dans l’espace du couvent va de pair avec la délimitation de l’instance narrative. Si le personnage principal est le narrateur, il apparaît que son expression narrative se détache d’elle pour résider dans un flou narratif dont les contours se définissent au fur et à mesure que le personnage fait tomber les barrières imposées par son éducation. Cet article montrera comment s’entremêlent libération et construction du personnage d’une part avec affirmation et complétion de l’instance narrative d’autre part.
