Title:
Guide to waste reduction in Vietnam
Author:
Nguyen Leroy, Marie Lan
;
Vu, Yên Ba
Subjects:
Environmental Sciences
Description:
Economic growth does not inevitably mean growth in the volume of its waste. On the contrary, a sustainable economic and social model is possible if all the stakeholders work together to build it. Any effort to continue managing waste without taking concrete measures for reduction is to foist upon future generations a problem that will become increasingly acute. We cannot cast the consequences of our choicestoday on future generations. In order for Vietnam to press forward on the way to sustainable economic and social development, it must consider waste prevention as a necessity.Implementing a waste reduction policy is not just about proclaiming principles or appealing to people’s ecological awareness. Reducing means developing a well-engineered agenda for action that gets the private operators, public stakeholders, and citizens to pull together in order to implement measures to reduce the volume and harmfulness of waste. The purpose of this publication is to provide information about the necessity of reducing waste and to open the discussionto all stakeholders regarding relevant solutions tailoredfor Vietnam.
