  • Description: This article studies the wood-based industry in the Comunidad de Madrid through the analysis of several aspects of its production structure. Although our results indicate the existence of a great diversity among the major industry groups, some common features among these companies were found; such as the predominance of small units, low specialization, increasing but lower than average labor productivity and unfavorable terms of trade. Beside these deficiencies, and even though the regional supply of raw material is very limited, the wood-based industry presents a relatively large presence in Madrid in terms of employment and value added.
