Description: Investigators have questioned whether body mass index (BMI, kg/m2) cut‐points for obesity used in the United States and Europe are appropriate for Asian countries. A recent study examined the association between BMI and mortality in a population‐based cohort of Japanese men and women. These and other results did not indicate a need for lower cut‐points in Asians.
