  • Description: Introduction Since the dawn of their existence human beings have been affected by disasters. It is trite that disasters often result in the serious disruption of the functioning of a community or society, as they may involve human, material or environmental loss and damage which often exceeds the ability of an affected community to recover by using its own resources. The last decades have seen the number of disasters increase, and they have become more intense. Worldwide, an estimated 217 million people were affected by disasters in the year 1990, and it is predicted that 375 million people will be affected by the end of the year 2015.
