Title:
O-Carboxymethylstarch Amine Polyampholytes as Papermaking Additives

Description:
Xanthated starch amine (XSA) polyampholytes, containing cationic amine and anionic xanthate substituents, improve both wet and dry strengths of paper when they are applied before formation of paper web. However, neither cationic starch amines nor starch xanthates, when applied individually, give the wet‐strength property. The potential for ampholytic starches, in general, to affect this important property was investigated. Multivalent cations (Fe+3, Al+3) improved the paper wet strength independently of carboxymethylstarch amine derivates.
