  • Description: The Republic of Serbia has ratified the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention). As a result, the female genital mutilation offence was entered into the Criminal Code of the Republic of Serbia in 2016 by way of accepting the obligations thereof. In this paper, the author analyzes the characteristics of the said criminal offence and points to certain weaknesses, with the aim of improving the existing regulations.
