  • Description: Municipalities' burden of providing information is extensive today and it is not only authorities, such as the National Board of Health and Welfare, that request information from municipalities; researchers and the media also do it, and the municipalities can of course initiate data collection themselves. But is more data always good? The National Audit Office has recently carried out an examination of open comparisons in social services (National Audit Office 2021). Open comparisons consist of indicators at the municipal or unit level that are collected and published annually by the National Board of Health and Welfare. Open comparisons exist within a number of different municipal areas of responsibility. With the help of open comparisons, the municipalities themselves can compare quality (measured as, for example, user satisfaction or the existence of different working methods) in their own operations with the quality in other similar municipalities.
