  • Description: More than 60% of customers at The Shops at Canal Place are tourists, says General Manager Lisa Marse. Canal Place is the only shopping center in Louisiana featuring Saks Fifth Avenue, Gucci, Kenneth Cole, Betsey Johnson and other high-end retailers in one place, Marse said. The New Orleans Centre may add entertainment venues to its menu of tenants, which could include a movie theater, nightclubs and restaurants, says Steve Gibson, general manager for Hertz Investment Group, which owns the New Orleans Centre. Some tenant churn at the Centre was inevitable. May Department Stores Co. of St. Louis announced in August it would close its upscale Lord & Taylor store in the New Orleans Centre, but a close date has not been set, said spokeswoman Sharon Bateman. The New Orleans Centre is now approximately 70% occupied, Gibson said.
