Description:
Hypertension-induced cardiac remodeling is a well known entity that has been investigated with echocardiography. In the last decade imaging techniques are focused on evaluation of heart mechanics. The strain assessment is a part of detailed echocardiographic examination. However, left and right ventricular longitudinal strain were proofed as a significant independent predictor of cardiovascular and total morbidity and mortality. The early detection of cardiac dysfunction by traditional echocardiographic methods is often not feasible. The aim of the article is to overview and summarise the main principles of left and right ventricular deformation in hypertensive population.
